Date for Diary. Tuesday 28th Feb. : There is a members get together planned with Justin O’Byrne from CGI (Confederation of Golf in Ireland) with the sole purpose of seeking the views from us the members as to what is the best approach to increase and retain our membership .
The GUI & ILGU are currently holding discussions regarding the creation of one governing body for golf in Ireland. Working groups have been set up to help achieve this. Sr Agnes Curley is one of 6 people on one of these working groups. She was involved with CGI a number of years ago and from that was invited by them to participate in this new venture. We wish her well in her new role and look forward to her progress reports.
The first of these workshops was held in Carton House last week and Agnes reports that some of the main aims of the CGI are : Equality for all golfers. to make golf more enjoyable and fun, to be open & welcoming to all golfers, that the structures be representative, to be efficient and economical ,volunteers & high performance. The new governing body would have the funds and influence to ensure that the training and facilities at elite level are appropriate for the significant talent that is out there. It sounds like ‘things are achanging’ for the better in the golfing world.
